ME team took part in international extreme ice racing competition Baikal Ice Storm- 2020
Mongolia Expeditions team of Aldra, the Director and Turu, Trek Leader & Bike Mechanic successfully participated in the “Ice Storm 2020” international extreme race in Siberia on Lake Baikal on 14-16 February 2020.
This year 55 athletes and amateurs from many regions of Russia, as well as Mongolia, Canada, the USA, the Czech Republic and Austria participated in the competition. Many of them admired the beauties of the protected lake for the first time, while others are already regular participants in the competitions.
The race is extreme due to several factors. The length of the distance which is 205 kilometres (127 miles) might be an obstacle itself. Also, low temperature and wind speed that reach up to 20 meters per second (65.6 ft/s) can be a challenge for many. Moreover, there are a lot of hindrances like ice cracks and reefs that competitors have to overcome. "This is a long race, but it is nice, very beautiful," noted Pavel Signal, a rider from Prague. Due to its severe conditions, some participants left the race.
Congratulations for Aldra, Turu and everyone who completed all the way! We also thank our Russian partners for hosting this awesome annual competition!
