Enjoy Winter on bike for weekends
Smoky and grey view through the window makes it a bit challenging to get out of our warm nest on weekend. Isn`t it a familiar picture for most of us? Why do not you join us for biking?
To promote a new and healthy lifestyle for the Ulaanbaatar city dwellers, we have been organizing winter bike tours for weekends since a few years ago and been witnessing the increase in number of people who bike or want to bike outside the city.
Here are 7 reasons why you should bike in winter:
- Escape from smoke! Cycling along the Tuul river valley will make your lung happy with fresh air. It is a time to breath fresh air enjoying beautiful scenery around.
- Spice up your life! You can not ride a bike? No worries. It is a chance to try something out of ordinary. Variety is the spice of life so why not try something new! We will teach you how to cycle.
- Improve your mood! Due to a combination of shorter daylight hours, darker days and the tendency to stay in due to cold weather, winter is known to cause or worsen depression. Being around people and going out more often when biking will improve your daily mood during winter. Studies have shown that cyclist are essentially happier people due to a combination of psychological and physiological factors that contribute to better mind-body health.
- Burn more calories!nWhen out in the cold our natural tendency is to start moving to increase body heat. This results in dramatically increased calorie burn during workouts. According to University of Utah Study your body’s basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories you burn doing nothing) slightly increases when in the cold.
- Get unplugged from technology for a while! Are your kids attached to their smart phones and devices? Cycling gives them an exciting reason to switch off from modern devices and get some quality time with pristine Mother Nature.
- Overcome stress! Heading to the great outdoors has also been proven to reduce stress, so take the weight of the every day off your shoulders, leave it at home, and enjoy what nature has to offer!
- Embrace the cold - Athletes use a technique known as contrast therapy to treat injuries and reduce inflammations from training. It consists of immersing the body or body part in cold water and then immersing it in warm water. Cycling in the cold and taking a nice relaxing warm shower right after would reasonably have the same anti-inflammatory effect relieving your body random of aches and pains.
