Winter 2009-2010 Across Mongolia by horse, camel and ski
Three Australians make a remarkable journey across Mongolia in the dead of winter using non-motorised means. The journey started in December, 2009, leaving from a town called Altanbulag, just inside Mongolia on the border with Russia, about 100 km south of Lake Baikal (the world's oldest and deepest lake). They went as far south as they could go in the month they had, which was 500 km. As usual in such extreme challenges Mongolia Expeditions provided local logistics but most importantly a guide by the name of Temuujin who could bear the unbearable conditions of continental winter. www.australiangeographic.com.au
