Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and tour briefing

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to 4* Bayangol hotel. Welcome dinner and trip briefing in the evening. (hotel/D)

Day 2: Flight to Gobi desert, cycle from Eagle canyon
This morning you will be transferred to UB airport for one and a half hour flight to Gobi desert. Upon arrival meet with your support team and drive to Gurvan Saikhan mountain range where a narrow canyon shelters a small glacier which remain frozen until late July. At the entrance of the canyon visit a local museum with an interesting collection of petrified wood and dinosaur eggs. We take one hour hike to the narrowest part of the canyon. With a bit of luck you may spot Wild mountain goats scaling steep cliffs as well as Bearded vultures soaring above.
After a picnic lunch we start cycling with a 20km steady downhill followed by a 30km easy roll across the vast Gobi plain. This is a good warm up before more serious biking days ahead. Finish cycling upon arrival to a local ger camp. After check in you can take hot showers and relax before dinner and overnight in traditional felt covered tents known as gers or yurts. (Distance 50km, total climb 310 meters, ger camp/B,L,D)
Day 3: Cycle to Flaming Red Cliffs

Today we do a return cycling trip to Flaming Red Cliffs. This is a world famous paleontology fossil site where in 1920-ies an American expedition led by Roy Chapman Andrews unearthed the first ever dinosaur eggs intact in their nests as well as hundreds of dinosaur skeletons among them of several new species. The whole riding route today is on smooth packed soils and practically with no ascents. Nevertheless, a possible head wind can be a bit of a challenge. Upon reaching the Flaming Cliffs we hike through eroded ravines of red sandstone and make our own discovery. Picnic lunch and return ride to the ger camp. If preferred you can take a car lift on the way back. Dinner and overnight in the same ger camp. (Distance 50km, total climb 150 meters, ger camp/B,L,D)

Day 4: Cycle to Gegeet valley

Riding today is a bit more challenging as we cycle across the middle body of the Gurvan Saikhan mountain range. Although amidst desert today's route runs on an elevated and therefore well ventilated plateau between two parallel ridges. Short and at times steep ascents are followed by exciting downhills and smooth flat sections are interrupted by short loose parts. Due to better ventilation the area is used as the summer grazing ground by local herders. You will see their large herds of goats and horses and as well as their felt tents; a life style that hasn't seemingly changed for many hundreds of years. Tonight is the only tented overnight of this trip. (Distance 69km, total climb 979 meters, tent/B,L,D)

Day 5: Cycle to Khongoriin Els sand dunes
Gobi desert cycling MongoliaLast cycling day. This is perhaps the hardest day marked by long stretches of loose gravel that fill dry river beds. But still you get to enjoy short steep climbs followed by fast downhill rolls. Riding conditions will however change In the afternoon as we exit the mountains and cycle on the endlessly flat Gobi plain. Heat, a possible head wind and corrugated surface (known also as washboard) will challenge our last riding part. Here we ride along the Khongoriin Els Sand dunes, locally known as Singing Dunes. They stretch for over 100km and the tallest dunes are 200m from the foothill. On windy days a distinct propeller hum is heard from the dunes. Fine sand blown by dominating NW winds builds up on crests and then collapses down the steeper slope producing the tremor of tons of sand.
At the end of the day we arrive to cozy ger camp nearby the dunes. We settle down and later when the heat subsides take a short trip to the dune base. Optionally you can climb the dunes or just walk the lower slopes. The evening light creates especially beautiful landscapes. Back in camp enjoy myriads of stars that will phosphoresce the dome of the Gobi sky. (Distance 89km, total climb 410 meters, ger camp/B,L,D)
Day 6: Return drive to Gobi airport

Our cycling adventure is over so we take this morning easy before driving towards the Gobi airport. The whole of the afternoon will be at leisure. We today overnight in a ger camp in hours driving distance from the airport. (ger camp/B,L,D)

Day 7: Return flight to Ulaanbaatar

Transfer to airport and catch a return flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival you will be transferred to you hotel. In the evening we all gather for a farewell dinner. (hotel/B,D)

Day 8: Departure transfer

Transfer to airport for your departure home. (B)
